Name: Unknown
Alias: The Dream Warrior
It doesn't get much more old-school than this.
A large portion of my ideas and characters have some sort of basis in dreams I've had, and this young lass is a prime example of that. Years and years ago, probably when I was in 5th grade or so, I recall having a dream about this young woman. Charged with the task of protecting the dreams of others, she possessed the ability to hop from consciousness to
consciousness, where she would do battle with creatures from the Nightmare Realm, which apparently existed within the minds of others, and were seeking a foothold into our own reality. After I had crafted her
back story, she kind of fell along the wayside. Heck, as far as I can recall, I don't think she was ever truly given a name. A few days ago, I suddenly got the urge to draw her again; keep in mind that I hadn't even attempted to do anything with her for at least 10 years now. But strangely enough, the character suddenly popped into mind, and I became quite curious as to how I would interpret her now. Witness the rebirth of a character, the mysterious Dream Warrior, defender of the World of Dreams, and sworn enemy of the Nightmare Realm.
Random Odds and Ends: Why the whip? I'm sure you might be wondering why I didn't pick a sword, or something in that vein. Well, while she did come across other weapons along her journey (I had the whole thing figured in videogame terms back in the day), the whip always served as her primary tool of choice. I guess I had a bit of
Castlevania on the brain when I went to bed that night. Also, you're probably wondering what the heck that little thing near her feet is. Well, in the dream, I distinctly remember seeing a frog-like creature following her around, so I decided to make it her sidekick/avatar.
The Future: You know, just messing around with all of this history and looking at the sketch really got the gears in my head going again. I'm crafting a bit of a story here for the young lass, so mayhaps this will lead to her showing up somewhere down the line. I think I could really have fun with someone capable of hopping from dream to dream.
