Current Mood: Hmm... well, it seems pretty safe. Well, where to begin, where to...
Heh, good to see you, Leo... man, it's been busy these past few...
Yeah, between getting married, the honeymoon in Vegas, work, and Dragon*Con, I've been BEYOND busy these past few months. Add to that me just getting the network squared away, and FrontPage not recognizing the spell check from my updated version of Office, and you can see that things have been quite odd. Life's returned to something that I might mistakenly call normal, so let's get back to work here! Also, as a quick sidenote, I'm a Deviant now...
Funny. What I meant is that I'm on Deviant Art now as well. This means that I might end up doing some streamlining around here and making the Club Ninja Gallery look more portfolio-esque. Or hell, I'm also considering the merits of WordPress as well. We'll see what shapes up around here. The Truth About Raphael and Ivy (Or, Why It's Fun To Work With Other 'Soul Calibur' Geeks): Another random tale of what happens when we have too much free time at work. As any of you gamers worth a damn should be aware, Soul Calibur IV came out a few weeks ago, and in fact, I'm taking a little break from the festivities in order to get this update completed. If I thought that I would be unlocking stuff in #3 until I died, I believe that my unconceived, unnamed children will still be working on this one after I'm long gone. Anywho, two of my coworkers are also fans of the series, and after flipping through the Strategy Guide a few days before the game actually came out, Sheridan made a humorous observation. It would seem that both Raphael and Ivy are the same height, and after a lively, tangent-filled conversation, he and Fawn began to theorize that perhaps they were one in the same. Hey, I told you that we were bored. Now, there were a few things that gave credence to their theories (both are disgraced European nobility, blondish hair, haughty demeanor, similar facial features, etc...), but we also managed to (theoretically) link this revelation to Amy's near-mute ways from SC3, figuring that perhaps she walked in a chamber at the wrong time, as Raphael was in the midst of his transformation. For those of you that haven't played SC3, the ONLY word that Amy says throughout the game is 'Amy', not including the various versions of 'OW!' when you're fighting. We figured the incident had to happen something like this... Amy (with a plate of food): Um, I
brought you dinner sir, and... *walks into the room* Amy shrieks and passes out. A few minutes later she comes to, as Raphael frantically tries to cover his tracks. Raphael: Amy!?! Speak to me! [Special thanks to Fawn for giving us the 'Meatloaf' line, which TOTALLY caught us off-guard] As a side effect, we'll occasionally refer to Amy as Meatloaf, and timidly saying the word at work has been known to send us into hysterics for these past few weeks. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but dammit, we are but simple creatures. Oooh, which brings me to my next point... I'm now on XBox Live as NinjaMani. Who wants some? =) Random Quote: "NO, you... CANTANKEROUS HUSSY!" -- During a discussion of some sort at work, Fawn apparently said something rather silly and disagreeable to Sheridan, who responded with... well, this. Well, it certainly was DIFFERENT. Sex and Fandom: So, a few months back, I saw Sex and The City in the theaters. OK, stop laughing. TC, I'm looking at YOU. But yeah, I was kidnapped and forced to watch this one as payback from Cristi for dragging her to see Speed Racer. Which, I contend, wasn't THAT bad, but I swear to goodness I wanted to dropkick Spridle every time he showed up on camera... But enough about Spridle, this is about Sex and The City. Now, as someone that is pretty damned ignorant to the whole Sex phenomenon, you'd be right in assuming that I went into the movie with the expectation of being bored to tears. Well now, I'm man enough to admit that, even though I knew next to nothing about the characters, I actually enjoyed the movie. Sure, there was a lot that was lost on me, but even so, I was able to enjoy the movie on its own merits. Cristi later joked that it's a similar feeling from when she goes to comic book movies and the like- she may not know all of the history and back story, but that doesn't mean that she can't enjoy it. Her comment, combined with an observation of mine, got me thinking. While we were in line grabbing food, Neil (who was also kidnapped for the festivities) and I noticed that there were several women in line that we thought were way overdressed to just be going to the movies. He explained that he had read somewhere that there was a pretty substantial group of young women that were going to see Sex decked out to the nines, since Carrie's fashion-forward sense was one of the running themes from the series. I was ready to start smart-assing at that point, but I paused and thought for a moment. How is this any different from my ilk dressing up for a Star Wars or Lord of the Rings premier? I think that it would have been hypocritical of me to make fun of the ladies at Sex, since I would have been quick to jump to the defense of one of my geek brethren with a light saber and a robe. It's fandom any way you look at it; there really isn't anything wrong with dressing the part of a character that you feel such a connection to. Of course there are going to be exceptions and those that take it too far (Fanboys, I'm looking at YOU...), but I still give the majority of humanity the benefit of the doubt. Maybe that's one of my flaws, but hey, I'm an optimist. But I DO have one question that's been bothering me since I've seen this movie. Really and truly, who in the @#$% wears a pearl necklace to bed? Sure, I've heard of people waking up with a pearl necklace, but I think that's a little bit different... =) Random Quote: "Well, I guess before I describe this, do you guys like pork?" "Of course we do, we're black." -- A while back, my friend Allen was in the area and stopped by the store, and somehow we got on the subject of rather unhealthy foods we had come across recently. After a spirited conversation about 'The Luther', he went on to describe this beast of a meal that he had come across in a Chinese restaurant, which apparently had more fried pork than a flaming pigsty. He asked the question, and Sheridan, without a MOMENT'S hesitation, responded in kind. The Newness! : A few of these have already seen the light of day on either MySpace or DeviantArt, but I haven't had a chance to put them up here yet. First, we've got Stacy Lancaster... ... who HAS been remade for SCIV. Next up is cantankerous mage Woody Cole... ... followed by Dexter the Mage. And for good measure, we've got a couple of wallpapers with some brief biographical information on the two. And since I haven't added to the section in a while, here's a few quick sketches of Naomi the shapeshifter, my Soul Calibur rendition of Mani, and Isabeau, the most brutal beyotch ever created for M.U.G.E.N. So, what's next? Well, I recently stumbled across a list of 100 random themes- concepts like Love, Hate, and the like- and may end up tackling that. Some will be quick sketches, other may end up being fuller pieces, but I think it'd be a nice challenge to undertake. Finger crossed! Random Quote: "Bitch, I am your Nubian Daddy!" -- This would have been bad enough had it come from any of my other friends, but the fact that this phrase was uttered by Neil (who, again, is as white as the day is long) just pushed this one over the top. I forget the circumstances behind this one, but really, are they really needed?
