Geeks vs. Fanboys

Geeks: Like Klingons.
Fanboys: Speak Klingon.

Geeks: Might dress up as a character at a convention, depending on how effectively they can do the costume.
Fanboys: Will dress up at a convention, regardless of how little they look like the character, or even if they are the same gender. Might also insist on being called said character, refusing to answer to their God-given name.
[Nothing is scarier than seeing some fat guy dressed up in a fuku. Nothing.]

Geeks: Will reference Hentai in a joke.
Fanboys: Will reference Hentai in a normal conversation.

Geeks: Will think about dressing as a particular character at a convention in order to meet women.
Fanboys: Will actually do it.

Geeks: Can carry on a conversation not based on topic of geekdom.
Fanboys: Can't help but throw a reference to Goku, Vampires, and/or the Force into everyday conversation.

Geeks: Will take a day off from work in order to attend the midnight showing of a long-awaited movie on opening night.
Fanboys: Will camp out at the theater a week in advance, will dress up as characters, and threaten to smite anyone that speaks ill of them.
[Ironic sidenote: As I was compiling this list at work, one of my friends popped by and told me that he went to the midnight showing of The Two Towers, slept for four hours, then came in to work. "It was so worth it!" he told me.]

Geeks: Are the sane, silent majority, reflecting the average fan.
Fanboys: Often make the news and ruin it for the rest of us.

Geeks: Write fanfics.
Fanboys: Write massive multi-chaptered novellas that they treat as official continuity.

Geeks: Are pleased if they meet a special someone that shares their same interests.
Fanboys: Gauge the worthiness of a potential someone solely on them having the same obsession.

Geeks: Get addicted to Everquest.
Fanboys: Buy items off of EBay for Everquest.
[Enterprising geeks sell items on EBay!]

Geeks: Name pets after characters.
Fanboys: Name children after characters.

Geeks: Bathe.
Fanboys: This joke's too easy...

Geeks: Might own porn.
Fanboys: Might own an UNGODLY amount of porn.

Geeks: Like The Holy Grail, and can quote half the movie.
Fanboys: Like The Holy Grail, can quote the whole damned thing, and will often times do so unprovoked.

Geeks: Believe in punctuation and grammar.
Fanboys: what is punkuation u r lame!!!!!!111

Geeks: Can have a nice discussion about a series or a movie.
Fanboys: Are ready to come to blows if you insult a favorite character.

Geeks: Might think a character is cute.
Fanboys: Will build a shrine to said character.

Geeks: Dream of going to Japan, visiting some sights, hitting some clubs, doing some shopping, and eventually returning home.
Fanboys: Dream of going to Japan and becoming one with the culture that they love so much. Screw coming back.

Geeks: Will make lists like this.
Fanboys: Will be offended by it.
