"Kumiko"
Mani's Remarks: "I violated a pretty big rule of mine with this one, as I try not to color over pencil sketches before inking. However, I have to admit I really like the rough quality to the line work. Also, I didn't break her body parts down into sections before coloring like I usually do, instead opting to just paint the layers on top of each other. It's a slight change from what I usually do, but hey, you've got to experiment sometime =) So now, the question is, who is she? To which I can honestly say, I have no freaking clue! Well, what can I say? I felt compelled to draw someone slightly more realistic than my usual style, albeit someone with pink hair. =) I can trace this sketch to being a product of me really getting into the art of Luis Royo, even though she looks NOTHING like any of his typical ladies. I was flipping through Conceptions, which shows a lot of his sketch work, and I was surprised as to how simple and clean his line work is, especially if you see how elaborate his final pieces are. I ended up sketching several young ladies like this (most of which are in The Gallery), but somehow I had forgotten about Kumiko here. I was sorting through my scanned sketches not too long ago, and figured that with a little bit of cleanup, I could use her as a model." Random Sidenote: "While I may not have a clue as to who the hell she is, Kumiko HAS appeared in a number of different sketches in the past. And, to be perfectly blunt, most of them are pretty scandalous, at least compared to my regular art. I dunno, maybe it's the pink pigtails that compel me to evil. As it stands, there are numerous sketches of her spread (so to speak) throughout my massive collection of pads, either topless, damn-near-naked, or engaged in lesbianistic rites with a mysterious dark-haired woman. I've always joked that just about every male artist (especially anime-inspired ones) go through a Hentai phase at one point or another, and I suppose Kumiko here was a product of my own. And no, you won't be seeing any of those other sketches. They really weren't all that good!"
